Hindustan Times is an Indian English-language daily newspaper introduced and founded in 1924 by Sunder Singh Lyallpuri, founder-father of the Akali movement and the Shiromani Akali Dal in the Punjab Province
1. The legendary inception
Hindustan Times was founded by Sunder Singh Lyallpuri in 1924 and was inaugurated by none other than Mahatma Gandhi. Devdas Gandhi (son of Mahatma Gandhi), K.M. Panikkar, Tara Singh, and Madan Mohan Malaviya were some of the prominent personalities of the newspaper’s initial team.
2. The first issue
The first issue of Hindustan Times contained articles and writings from Bernard Haton, C.F. Andrews, Rubi Watson, Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy, Maulana Mohammad Ali, St. Nihal Singh, and several other notable writers of the time. It was published from Swami Sharda Nand Marg (previously known as Naya Bazar), New Delhi.
3. Ownership
Rajya Sabha M.P. Shhobhana Bhartia owns and manages Hindustan Times. The English-language daily newspaper is the flagship publication of HT Media. Shhobhana Bhartia was the first woman chief executive of a national newspaper when she joined Hindustan Times in 1986.
